Research summary

Our world is changing rapidly, and this is putting pressure on many species to adapt. To protect them, it is critical that we understand the distribution and maintenance of biodiversity. Dr. Julie Lee-Yaw, Canada Research Chair in Global Change Ecology and Macroecology, aims to generate the knowledge needed to support the protection and recovery of at-risk populations of species.

She and her research team are advancing our understanding of species’ range limits and how changes on a global scale can affect the distribution of species. By combining observational studies, genomic and spatial data, and synthesis work, she and her team will translate their results into partner-led conservation activities. Ultimately, Lee-Yaw’s research will help tackle the greatest ecological challenge of our time: mitigating the threats to biodiversity as species respond to global change.
