Research summary

In collaborative research partnerships, academics work with the community to generate and apply mutually beneficial and socially useful knowledge and practices. As Canada Research Chair in Critical Community Engagement and Public Policy, Dr. Leah Levac is examining how these partnerships can inform innovations in public policy-making. In particular, she aims to support more equitable policy outcomes by acknowledging and addressing structural inequities, including sexism, colonialism and classism.

She and her research team are exploring how critical community-engaged scholarship (CES) can foster innovations in public policy-making. They are also studying how CES can incorporate the knowledges and practices of often invisible communities. Their research will contribute to our knowledge about critical CES methodologies and theories, support the creation of training tools for advancing critical CES practices, and inform future public policy-making processes.
