Research summary

Diabetes represents a substantial health care burden in Canada. But there may be strategies we could use to reduce it.

Dr. Gillian Booth, Canada Research Chair in Policy solutions for Diabetes Prevention and Management, is evaluating public policies and health care approaches to preventing and treating diabetes. She and her research team are studying whether communities that promote physical activity and healthy eating can lower the risk of diabetes and cardiovascular disease. They are also developing tools to estimate the cost-benefits of healthy public policies, and investigating digital solutions that could make it easier for patients to manage the disease themselves. Ultimately, their work may help governments make healthier and more equitable health policy decisions.
