Research summary

Discrimination in the workplace occurs when an employee is treated differently because of their gender, race, age, sexual orientation or other grounds. Although we’ve learned a great deal about the extent and pattern of job discrimination, we are only beginning to unravel the biases that are often built into employers’ hiring policies and other processes. Dr. András Tilcsik, Canada Research Chair in Strategy, Organizations and Society, is trying to fill this knowledge gap.

He and his research team are examining the nature of discrimination in the contemporary workplace and the efforts that organizations are making to remedy it. They are also identifying the best practices for studying this type of discrimination. Ultimately, their research will yield practical recommendations to promote fair and diverse workplaces in Canada and abroad.
